WEEKLY UPDATE

Weekly Update – April 13, 2020

Hello friends – We hope you are staying safe and sane as we continue to slog our way through the COVID-19 crisis. It isn’t easy to continue the fight in the middle of all this chaos, but it has never been more important. Here are some items that we hope will keep you motivated to take action as you care for yourselves and your families.

CORONAVIRUS RELIEF BILL
INDIVISIBLE National is asking us to focus this week on the ongoing negotiations for the next coronavirus relief bill and to ask for a People’s Bailout that puts people over profits.
The People’s Bailout includes 5 main points: 1. Protect our democratic processes while protecting each other. 2. Make health the top priority, for all people, with no exceptions. 3. Provide economic relief directly to the people. 4. Rescue workers and communities, not corporate executives. 5. Make a down payment on a regenerative economy, while preventing future crises.
At this link you can find more details about what a coronavirus relief bill should look like and call scripts to help you talk to your MOC and senators.

FREE ICE DETAINEES
Be part of a growing Coalition to Free Everyone in Yuba County ICE Detention that involves many NorCal Immigration Justice Organizations. This group is doing all it can to protect the people in ICE Detention. STARTING TODAY, we are collectively pushing a series of actions, including a major Car Rally at the Yuba County Jail on Tuesday (tomorrow, April 14). First, please watch and share this short video by Dr. Kim with the Doctors For Camp Closure about the need for urgency due to COVID-19.

2020 COALITION TEXT BANKING AND LETTERS TO VOTERS
The 2020 Coalition is doing some great work locally. Even though we’re stuck at home, we can still do plenty of work to help win the November elections.

A great way to reach voters is by text message – it’s easy and even quite fun. Please take one of the on-line text message trainings to get started.

  • Text Bank Training, Level 1 – Every Wednesday at 7:00 – 8:30. Sign Up Here.
  • Text Bank Training, Level 2 – Every Thursday from 2:00 – 3:30. Sign Up Here.

Another way to stay engaged at home is to write letters to voters. Learn to write letters to help swing state voters get registered and to the polls.

  • Write letters to voters – Every Sunday from 12:00 – 2:00. Sign Up Here.

Stay well and see you (remotely) on Wednesday evening!
