SWING LEFT VOTER REGISTRATION LETTER CAMPAIGN: Help write letters to register new voters via Swing Left’s voter-registration-by-mail program. You can do it from home or organize a party of your own!


APRIL 2019


  • 4/21: 2020 Sundays Postcard Event: 1pm – 4pm, Sac County Democratic HQ, 1033 S Street, Sacramento. Hosted by Sacramento Mighty Oaks. Write postcards to help elect Democrats to state legislatures in 2019 and increase voter turnout in legislative districts currently held by Republicans (Sister District and Vote Forward projects). These events are planned every Sunday through February 2020. Now they are postcard events, but as the election gets closer, they will transition to phone and text banking to get out the vote.
  • 4/22: SACRAMENTO 2040 PLANNING EVENT: 5:30–7:30 pm, Hagginwood Community Center, Auditorium, 3271 Marysville Boulevard. Sacramento 2040 is the City of Sacramento’s blueprint for how and where our City will grow over the next 20 years. Key topics like climate change, mobility, livability, equity will be explored. Note that there are three events at different locations during April. RSVP for 4/22
  • 4/23: PUBLIC TESTIMONY SB 47 and SB 200:  8:30 am, State Capitol. Show up to give public testimony (easy – state name, organization, and if you support) for two priority bills. The Senate Committee on Public Safety will be hearing bill SB 47which requires disclosure of funding sources for ballot initiative campaigns. The hearing starts at 8:30 in Room 3191. Also that day (we do not have the start time yet), the Committee on Natural Resources and Water will consider SB 200, which establishes a right for every Californian to clean, affordable, and accessible drinking water.
  • 4/24: PUBLIC TESTIMONY SB 50:  9 am, State Capitol. Show up to give public testimony (easy – state name, organization, and if you support) for an INDIVISIBLE Sacramento priority bill. The Senate Committee on Government and Finance will consider SB50, which is Senator Scott Wiener’s bill to boost affordable housing availability near public transit lines. That hearing will be held in Room 112 (though it may be moved to Room 3191, depending on room availability).
  • 4/24: DENIM DAY & POLICY ADVOCACY DAY RALLY: 10AM-11AM at the California State Capitol East Lawn. Join the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault and the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence to raise awareness of sexual assault, show support for survivors, and rally in support of increased investments to prevent sexual and domestic violence in California.

Sacramento 2040 is the City of Sacramento’s blueprint for how and where our City will grow over the next 20 years. Key topics like climate change, mobility, livability, equity will be explored.   • 4/25: VOTER REGISTRATION TRAINING: 5:30 – 7:30 pm, Laguna/Valley Hi branch of the Sacramento Public Library, 7400 Imagination Pkwy in Sacramento. Learn how to register voters for the 2020 election.  RSVP to Claudiabon16@gmail.com.
  • 4/27: SISTER DISTRICT POLITICS AND POSTCARDS: 10 am – noon, Elk Grove Library, 8900 Elk Grove Blvd. Join Sister District to find out how they are supporting Karen Mallard for Virginia House of Delegates. Also, they are launching wave three of their Louisiana Voter Registration Postcard Study. RSVP here.

  • 5/4: MARCH FOR SCIENCE SACRAMENTO: 1-2:30pm, River Walk Park, 651 2nd St, West Sacramento. Show up to say SCIENCE IS REAL.“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” John Adams
  • 5/4: THE ABRAMSKY REPORT: 6-8pm. Come to the reveal event for a new weekly on-line column by Sasha Abramsky. In this new weekly column, Abramsky will continue to report on social justice issues like housing, poverty, healthcare, incarceration, and, increasingly, immigration.
  • 5/11: CAL AWAY TEAM CANVASS: Time and place TBA. Cal Away Team will be partnering with El Dorado County Dems to canvass no-party-preference voters in voter reg and voter pledge campaigns for 2020. More info to come – save the date!
  • 5/29: CA/StateStrong Lobby Day: Come lobby at the Capitol for CA State Strong’s legislative priority bills. They will provide a training on bills in the morning and split into lobby teams for legislator meetings.  RSVP here
