Friday, 6/9, 3:30 PM – 5 PM, ICE Out of CA Protest
US Citizenship & Immigration Services, 650 Capitol Mall, Sacramento, 95814
This event is sponsored by The Resistance, Elk Grove. Sacramento County is one of the largest holders of ICE detainees. Sheriff Scott Jones in a press release on department policy regarding coordination with ICE says “…We DO allow ICE agents inside our facilities to access our data and inmate population so they can carry out their mission, and cooperate with them the same as any other law enforcement partner. ICE agents are regularly inside our facilities for this purpose…” ICE has a 5 million dollar contract with the county to rent 100+ beds at our River City Correctional Center in Elk Grove. It is currently housing 84 detainees in various stages of deportation. We do not believe it should be the business of our local law enforcement agencies to help facilitate the detainment or deportation of our neighbors and friends and want ICE out of local jails. This protest will take place at the Immigration & Customs Department as this is place where immigrants check-in with the agency about their status. We will show the immigrant community our support and demand ICE operate as an independent agency.
