Weekly Update 1/22/18
Hello, Indivisible Friends.
We had a great weekend! Thank you to all who showed up on Saturday at the second annual Women’s March. Indivisible Sacramento was there along with 36,000 other progressive Sacramentans. It was a wonderful atmosphere.

DACA and the Shutdown
If you blinked, you may have missed it, but the federal government shut down over the weekend. After promising not to vote for any spending bill that did not include protections for Dreamers, most Dems in Congress voted for a temporary deal that did not quite deliver. The Indivisible National team has taken a strong stance against the deal. There will be another deadline in a few weeks, so keep calling your Members of Congress.
Your calls are working, because ALL of our local MOCs voted against the spending bill. Take some time tomorrow morning to give them a call and thank them for standing strong for Dreamers. They’ll have another chance to keep up the fight in a couple of weeks.
Senator Feinstein: (559) 485-7430
Senator Harris: (916) 448-2787
Representative Matsui: (916) 498-5600
Representative Bera: (916) 635-0505
The good news is that the temporary spending bill funds the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The bad news is that CHIP never should have been held hostage in the first place. It will be up to we the people to make sure our lawmakers never let it expire again.
Net Neutrality
We had an excellent meeting last week, thanks to special guest Senator Scott Wiener. Senator Wiener is a true progressive champion in the California Senate, and he has continued to fight for us by introducing a bill to require Net Neutrality in California. Time and again, we’ve heard from Indivisible Sacramento members that Net Neutrality is something we care deeply about. Please call your Assembly member and your State Senator this week and urge them to support Wiener’s SB 822. If they support it, ask them to consider becoming a co-sponsor!

Next Meeting
Our next meeting will be held on February 21st at 7:00. Our meetings are the third Wednesday evening of every month at Sierra2 Center, 2791 24th Street in Sacramento.
California Away Team
There is another volunteer opportunity coming up with California Away Team. Join them this Sunday to knock on a few doors and reach out to registered Democrats who have skipped recent midterm elections. Find the details at their website.
