Good evening, friends.
Senator Kamala Harris is holding a town hall meeting this Thursday, April 5th right here in Sacramento! All are welcome, and the event is free, but you need to sign up and get a ticket online. Visit the Eventbrite page here. The Town Hall meeting starts at 3:30 (doors open at 2:30) at Unity of Sacramento, 9249 Folsom Boulevard. If you can make it, this is a great opportunity. Senators Harris and Feinstein each represent almost 40 million Californians, so it’s rare that we get a chance like this to talk to them in person.
Issue Focus
This week, Indivisible groups in the Sacramento area are focusing on gun control. Please call your members of Congress and express support for Senator Feinstein’s bill to reinstate the assault weapons ban. Also, we ask you to call our Senators to oppose the nomination of NRA lawyer Howard Nielson to a federal judgeship. (More information about the Nielson nomination can be found on the Indivisible website).
Rep. Doris Matsui: (916) 698-5600
Rep. Ami Bera: (916) 635-0505
Sen. Kamala Harris: (916) 448-2787
Sen. Dianne Feinstein: (415) 393-0707
Next Meeting
Our next meeting is on Wednesday, April 18th at 7:00 p.m. We are very lucky to have two special guests joining us. District Attorney candidate Noah Phillips will be joining us. We will also be hearing from a representative from the Citizen’s Climate Lobby.
As usual, this meeting will be at Sierra2 Center for the Arts and Community, 2791 24th street, Room 10. We hold our meetings on the third Wednesday evening of each month.
Interfaith Forum
Even more important, our Interfaith Forum is coming up soon. You don’t want to miss this one: leaders from local progressive organizations and a wide range of faith traditions will be taking the stage to talk about the role of faith in the Progressive Movement. If you want to hear about how people of widely different backgrounds and beliefs work together to stop poverty, save the environment, or fight for human rights, this is an event for you.
The Interfaith Forum happens on Sunday, April 22nd at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church (2100 J Street).
California Away Team
The next canvassing event for California Away Team is this Sunday, April 8th in the neighborhood of Rosemont. If you’ve never participated before, it’s incredibly easy. All you have to do is knock on the doors of registered Democrats who have skipped previous midterm elections and ask them to fill out a card that will remind them to vote this fall. Please look at CA Away Team’s website for details.
They also have events coming up soon in District 4 (Roseville and El Dorado Hills) if you want to help boot one of Trump’s supporters out of Congress.
