Weekly Update
April 23, 2018
It’s election season, and our mission is to turn red districts blue – and to keep blue ones from turning red! California Away Team can still use some volunteers. I don’t need to remind you how important it is to make sure that Trump’s supporters don’t control Congress next year. Even if you’ve never volunteered before, it’s not too late to get started!
Can you spare a few hours to help get rid of Congressman Tom McClintock? If so, please join us this Saturday or Sunday in Roseville. (Details here) Would you rather help defend Congressman Ami Bera’s swing seat? If so, we could use your help Sunday in Fair Oaks. (Details here) SB 822 Hearing We’d also like to remind you that Senator Scott Wiener’s Net Neutrality bill is up for a big vote TOMORROW morning in the state Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill needs to pass this committee in order to go for a vote by the full Senate. The hearing starts at 1:30 in Room 112 in the beautiful historic wing of the Capitol building (we don’t know what time the bill will be heard, so it’s best to get there at 1:30). We hope you can show up and support the bill – supporters get a chance to state their names and positions for the official record, and it always looks good when we can get a big crowd together on our side. Also, remember to call your legislators and let them know we support SB 822. Net Neutrality is crucial for preserving free speech and preventing big corporations from drowning out voices they don’t like to hear. Find your state legislators here. Interfaith Forum Thank you to all who attended our Interfaith panel this weekend. It was a very successful event, as believers and non-believers of all stripes came together to talk about how the Progressive movement can work with faith groups to further our goals of racial justice, economic equality, and health care for all. Discussion with Secretary Padilla And we have another big special event coming up next month – Secretary of State Alex Padilla is going to talk to us and take our questions. Secretary Padilla is at the forefront of the battle to expand voting rights and ensure our elections are fair and secure. You don’t want to miss this! If you haven’t marked your calendars yet, please make sure to jot downTuesday May 22nd at 7:00. The event will be at the Arcade Library, 2443 Marconi Avenue in Arden-Arcade. Next Meeting Our next meeting will be just a few days before, on Wednesday, May 16th. We’ll have more information on the speakers and agenda soon. Our monthly meetings are always on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Room 10 at Sierra2 Community Center, 2791 24th Street. Finally, remember to check our website regularly. All of our special events are listed there, as well as a wealth of other great information. http://www.indivisiblesacramento.com |
