WEEKLY UPDATE

Weekly Update 7/9/18

We have a new fight on our hands: the fight to save the Supreme Court from Brett Kavanaugh. Indivisible has outlined our two part strategy for this. First, get 51 NO votes in the Senate. Second, win back the Senate in November. It won’t be easy, but we can do it.

Our Senators, Kamala Harris and Dianne Feinstein, have both stated that they will vote against confirming Kavanaugh. But we should call them anyway. Thank them for having our backs and let them know how important this is to us. And then we will focus on November. Indivisible has announced that they’re putting together a massive phone bank to help us win senate seats in Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Tennessee, and Mississippi. We’ll send the details on that as soon as they are available.

Next Meeting

We’ve got an amazing guest speaker planned for our July meeting. Holly Cooper is the co-director of the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic and the counsel of record for the plaintiffs in the Flores v. Sessions lawsuit in which the 9th Circuit Court ruled that all immigrant child detainees have a right to a hearing. With so much horrible news about Trump’s treatment of immigrants, we are very luck to be joined by an expert who is fighting for justice.

As usual, our meeting is the third Wednesday of the month, July 18th, at 7:00 p.m. Our meeting location is Room 10, Sierra2 Community Center, 2791 24th Street.

Postcard Party

We had a blast at our latest postcard party. More importantly, we had over three dozen people attend, and we wrote an astounding 1,209 postcards! We will mail those cards to registered Democrats in the 10th Congressional district a few weeks before the election to remind them to get out and VOTE.

If you didn’t get a chance to join us, don’t worry. We’ll be scheduling other postcard parties soon!

California Away Team

Postcards are a great way to reach voters, but knocking on doors is even more effective. If you haven’t done any door knocking yet this year, please check out California Away Team’s website. They have some great opportunities to volunteer close to Sacramento. Their program is easy and non-confrontational – you won’t have to argue with anyone who disagrees with you – just remind registered Democrats to vote this November.

Volunteer this weekend in Roseville. More events are planned in August in Elk Grove and nearby areas.

WE NEED YOU to help take back Congress. Our Democracy depends on it!
