Weekly Update 3/19/18
Hello, friends.
We have a meeting on Wednesday evening. This is a special meeting, because we are going to be voting on which bills we want to support in the State legislature this year. Please join us and make your voice heard. As usual, our meeting is at 7:00 in Room 10 at Sierra2 Center (2791 24th Street). California Legislation If you have time, please check out the bills we’ll be considering at CA State Strong’s website. CA State Strong is a project initiated by Indivisible to help push policy at the State level. They’ve asked us (and all of CA’s other Indivisible teams) to recommend our top 15 bills so that they’ll know what to focus on this year. March for Our Lives The March for Our Lives is this Saturday. The march starts at Crocker Park at 10:00 a.m. It is an incredible event, organized by high school and college students across the nation who are sick of gun violence. Indivisible Sacramento will be there with our banner flying. We’re planning to gather at the Southeast corner of the park – that’s the part closest to the intersection of O and 3rd Streets. You don’t have to march with us, but if you do it will be much more fun! Mueller Protest This is another rally you should know about, and one we hope will never happen. In the event that Trump fires Robert Mueller, Move On has coordinated protests across the country. Sacramento’s event was not posted for awhile, but we are back in business with a new organizer. If Trump fires Mueller before 2:00 p.m., the rally will start at 5:00 p.m. that day. If he is fired after 2:00 p.m., it will be at 12:00 noon the next day. Either way, we’ll gather at the West Steps of the Capitol Building. Meeting with Secretary Padilla We are pleased to announce a very special event. Secretary of State Alex Padilla has agreed to meet with our group for a Q&A Session. He will be joining us on Tuesday, May 22nd at 7:00 p.m. at the Arcade Library, 2443 Marconi Avenue. Voting rights are a big deal, and Secretary Padilla is at the forefront of California’s efforts to expand voter participation, so we hope you can join us to hear him speak. Faith Forum Finally, a reminder that our Interfaith Forum is just over a month away. It’s happening on Earth Day (Sunday, April 22nd) at 3:00 at First United Methodist Church. Leaders from many different faith traditions will be talking with local progressive leaders about how we can all make the world a better place. |
