Weekly Update
3/12/18
Our next meeting is next Wednesday, March 21st, at 7:00. This will be a very important meeting, as we are going to discuss some very important bills before the California legislature. We’ll be voting to see which ones we want to endorse as a group. This is important for a couple of reasons. First, we want to know which bills to focus on when we meet with our State Senators and Assembly Members. But it’s also a big deal because we are going to pass on our views to Indivisible’s California State Strong team to help them decide where to focus the energy of all of the Indivisible groups in the whole state.
So make sure you show up on Wednesday to make your voice heard. We’re meeting in Room 10 at Sierra2 Center: 2791 24th Street. If you have some time, please check out State Strong’s page, where they have a quick summary of a lot of important state bills. Phone Calls to Members of Congress You may not realize it, because it gets almost no press attention, but the U.S. is supporting Saudi Arabia’s intervention in the civil war in Yemen. Congress is being asked to approve and let this shadow war continue. We do not want that. Please call both of our Senators and let them know you are opposed to this conflict. Sen. Kamala Harris: (916) 448-2787 California Away Team Pennsylvania has a special Congressional election tomorrow, and everyone is watching to see if it is another sign of the big blue wave that may be coming in November. But big wave elections don’t happen by themselves – we all have to do our part to make them happen! Here’s what you can do: visit California away team’s website and sign up to volunteer. Join them to knock on doors belonging to registered Democrats who skipped the last midterm election. It’s simple, it’s effective, and it’s fun to be part of a team that is doing good work. You can help in the 4th district (Roseville or El Dorado Hills) where we’re working to boot our Trump ally Tom McClintock. Or you can help in the 7th district (Fair Oaks, Folsom, Elk Grove) where we’re trying to protect a blue seat. The next volunteer day is March 25th, so mark your calendar! March for our Lives The March for Our Lives rally is on Saturday, March 24th at 10:00 a.m. The march starts at Crocker Park (located at 3rd and O Streets downtown) and ends at the Capitol building. Indivisible Sacramento will be there, as this is one of the most important protest events of the year. There is momentum building across the country to end gun violence, and this event will show how serious we are. The best part is that these events are being organized by students across America who are the next generation of progressive activists. |
