Weekly Update – July 23, 2018

As of this weekend, there will be only 100 days left until the midterm election, when we can finally take some power back from the Trump Administration. In honor of this milestone, Indivisible is asking us to get involved and make some phone calls. Help us and be part of a massive, nationwide weekend of action.

You can find the details here on Indivisible’s website. It’s easy, and you can do it from home. All you need is a phone and a computer. They need volunteers on Saturday from 11:00 – 3:00 Pacific Time, on Sunday from 11:00 – 3:00, and Monday from 2:00 – 6:00. If you need some help figuring out what to do, they will also host a training session webinar on Sunday at 10:00.

Last Meeting

We had an amazing meeting last week, as Holly Cooper, co-director of the UC Davis Law Clinic, shared what she has learned in more than 20 years as an immigration lawyer. One thing that stood out: she told us that what we are doing definitely matters. The child detainees who she represents have told her that it means a lot to them to know that people like us are fighting for them, protesting, and calling our elected officials. And judges are paying attention to our activism as well. Do not for a moment think that you cannot make a difference in the face of a crisis like this one.

After the meeting, many people have asked us what we can do to help. We are working on putting together some opportunities to do so, and we hope to let you know about those shortly.

Next Meeting

Our meetings are always the third Wednesday evening of each month, which means that our next one will be on August 15th at 7:00 p.m. We meet in Room 10 at Sierra2 Center, 2791, 24th Street.

California Away Team

The Indivisible Phone Bank isn’t the only chance for you to help win the midterm elections this weekend. If you haven’t done so already, please check out California Away Team. They are a wonderful organization that knocks on doors and reminds registered Democrats who have skipped previous elections to vote this November. Volunteering for California Away Team is much easier than you think, and it makes a big difference.
