Weekly Update 9/11/18 Hello, friends. We have a lot of updates this week. That means election season must be getting closer! Nevada Trip There’s still time to sign up for our trip to Nevada. We’re going to be there the weekend of September 22nd and 23rd talking to voters. Nevada has one of the most important Senate races in the country, as Jacky Rosen is trying to knock out Trump-stooge Dean Heller, and we can also help flip their governor’s mansion and a House seat in the process. And if you RSVP by Thursday night, the good people of Indivisible Northern Nevada will be able to find a house for you to stay in so that you don’t have to pay for a hotel. You can’t beat that deal! To RSVP, please send an e-mail to this e-mail address, and we’ll add you to the list. Next Meeting A reminder that our next meeting is on Tuesday the 18th, instead of the normal Wednesday date. We will also be in a different room – Curtis Hall instead of the usual Room 10. Our special guest is California Secretary of State Alex Padilla. As usual, the meeting will be at 7:00 at Sierra2 Center, 2791 24th Street. We apologize to anyone who is unable to attend due to Yom Kippur, as both the regular Wednesday time and the new Tuesday time occur during the holiday. We were unable to find a different meeting date that did not conflict with the holiday this month but will make an effort to avoid such scheduling conflicts in the future. Adopt a Voting Center Just in time for our visit with the Secretary of State, Indivisible Sacramento is pleased to announce that we have chosen to adopt a voting center this November. The Secretary of State’s office is working with the Voter’s Choice Act Coalition to encourage local organizations to help increase voter engagement this election. Indivisible Sacramento plans to participate in this effort by “adopting” one of the city’s new vote centers where turnout was low during the June primaries. Interested volunteers will work together to identify and implement ways to spread the word about, and encourage the use of, this vote center. Volunteers will also be needed to manage voter flow on Election Day (Tuesday, November 6th) Stay tuned for opportunities to help – your creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment are welcome and appreciated. Postcard Parties A local Indivisible leader is running for office this fall! Jaclyn Moreno, who founded the group in Elk Grove, is running for a seat on the Cosumnes Services District, which oversees parks and fire departments in the southern part of our county. We’re having a postcard party to help her out on Wednesday, September 26th at Round Table Pizza in Pocket-Greenhaven. Please come out and help write postcards to voters – in a local race like this one, postcard could really make a difference in helping voters know who Jaclyn is. And it would be amazing to have one of our own in an elected office. We’ll get started at 6:30 p.m. – and there will be pizza! The address is 398 Florin Road. We’re also doing more postcard parties to help win back Congress. This Thursday (9/13), we have one to help re-elect Congressman Ami Bera, who always faces a tough race in his very closely-divided district. You can join us at Belle Cooledge Library on South Land Park Drive at 7:00 p.m. Campaign Volunteers If you prefer to work directly with a campaign, the Bera campaign is looking for volunteers. They have “Days of Action” for phone banking and canvassing every Saturday this month, starting at 10:00 a.m. and on Weekdays (Monday – Thursday) starting at 4:00 p.m. You can get involved at their Carmichael Headquarters at 5845 Windmill Way in Carmichael or at the DCCC Battle Station office at 9332 Elk Grove Boulevard, Suite 110 in Elk Grove. California Away Team And if you still have some time left over, make sure you volunteer with California Away Team. They’re out every weekend knocking on the doors of Democrats who skipped the last midterm election. Help save the seat in District 7 (Elk Grove, Fair Oaks) or help flip a red seat to blue in District 4 (Roseville, El Dorado Hills). Details for both are at the Cal Away Team website. And finally, you should always check our website, because we post new events all the time. As long as you stay connected with us, you will never run out of opportunities to get involved this elections season! |
