Hello, Friends.
Great news – SB822, the Net Neutrality bill that was Indivisible Sacramento’s #1 state priority, has passed the legislature! Now it just needs a signature from Governor Brown to make California the nation’s leader in net neutrality protection.
Give the Governor a call tomorrow and make sure he knows how much we want him to sign the bill!
His phone number is 916 445 2841.
Stop Kavanaugh
Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing started today. If you’re reading this, you already know that Kavanaugh would be a disaster for LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, health care, the environment, and nearly every other cherished aspect of our democracy. California’s senators have already announced that they are against Kavanaugh. Give them a call this week – even though they’ve already stated their opposition, our calls are helpful in showing them how much we care and reassuring them they’ve made the right choice.
NOTE: please do not call senators who do not represent California, unless you have an address in another state. But please do call your friends and family in other states and tell them to call their senators!
Next Meeting
California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will be joining us at our next monthly meeting. With less than two months to go before the election, we are honored to hear from someone who is at the forefront of expanding voter access and ensuring that elections in our state are fair and secure.
This meeting is on a special date – Tuesday, September 18th, and we will be in the Curtis room instead of our normal room 10. One thing remains the same – we’ll be at Sierra2 Center, 2791 24th Street.
Let’s Help Get Out the Vote!!!
Speaking of the election, we need your help talking to voters. It’s hard to believe, but there are still people out there who don’t know how they are going to vote, and there are others who will vote the right way, but might need a little reminder or encouragement about the election. Here is how you can do your part to build a Blue Wave:
California Away Team: volunteer with California Away Team and knock on the doors of registered Democrats who skipped the last election. This is the easiest way to ensure more friendly voters turn out in November. Help in Folsom or Elk Grove this weekend. Or join them next weekend in Roseville or Placerville. Just click the links for details!
Nevada Canvassing Trip: We’re going to Reno the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd to reach out to voters there, because Nevada has a crucial Senate seat up for election (as well as a close governor’s race and a key House of Representatives seat). Reply to this e-mail and let us know if you’re interested in being a part of this trip!
Postcard Parties: Finally, we are having another postcard party at Belle Cooledge Library on September 13th at 7:00 p.m. Postcards will go to voters in the closely-divided 7th Congressional District.
