Weekly Update – 5/13/19
Hello, friends.
Our monthly meeting is Wednesday evening at 7:00. We are pleased to welcome our guest speaker Jon Stoller, a defense attorney, former civil rights attorney, and community activist. He’ll be joining us to discuss Assembly Bill 392 and related issues. As usual, we’ll be in Room 10 at Sierra2 Center for the Arts and Community at 2791 24th Street in Sacramento. Join us! Dream and Promise Act Can you spare a moment to call your Member of the House of Representatives for theDream and Promise Act? Not only do we want the House to pass this bill, but we want to make sure it doesn’t get watered down with amendments. Please call your representative and ask them to support the bill – and to reject any amendments that would narrow the eligibility requirements. If you’d like a call script, you can find one here at Indivisible’s website. Congresswoman Doris Matsui – (916) 498-5600 Write Postcards! Every Sunday at the Sacramento County Democratic Party headquarters, our friends with Sacramento Mighty Oaks are writing postcards to help out Democratic candidates in state elections. Virginia, New Jersey, Kentucky, and a few others have state legislative elections this year, and your postcards can make a difference. Stop by any Sunday from 1:00 – 4:00 at 1033 S Street in Sacramento. What if you want to help on a day other than Sunday? Check out Swing Left’s voter registration campaign. You can write letters from the comfort of your own home! Pizza and Politics Did you enjoy our pizza and politics event in March? Or did you miss it and badly regret not going? Good news – we’re going to do another one. Save the date for June 30th at 1:00. We’ll be meeting at a pizza place (location TBD), and we’re also going to do a text-banking training. Come out, enjoy a slice and a beer, and learn how to reach out to voters. Sounds like a perfect Sunday afternoon. |
