Weekly Update – 5/7/19
Are you free tomorrow morning? The ACLU and others are showing support for LGBTQ+ rights and education in California. A homophobic organization called Informed Parents of California is planning to protest outside the Department of Education tomorrow morning. The protest was prompted by a DOE hearing on the implementation of the California Healthy Youth Act, which encourages education on HIV prevention and acceptance of sexual orientation. We would like to show that Sacramento is a place for inclusion, not hate.
If you can make it, please join at the corner of the State Capitol Park on 15th and N Streets at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, across from the Department of Education building. If you can, please wear purple to show that you oppose hate. Thank you! We would like to thank everyone who donated to Indivisible Sacramento in April. It is truly amazing how generous you all were. Thanks to your support and matching funds from Indivisible national, we raised $1,100, which will cover our room rental costs and allow us to plan some great events this year. Thank you so much. Yolo County Petition in Support of Legal Services for Undocumented Families The Yolo Board of Supervisors is considering allocating funds to assist families with immigration proceedings. Attorneys are not provided to defendants in ICE hearings, and many vulnerable families cannot afford legal help. County funding could help bridge this gap. Please sign the petition and share with friends and family, especially those in Yolo County! Next Meeting We always meet the third Wednesday of each month at Sierra2 Center in Sacramento, Room 10. Our next meeting is next Wednesday, May 15th. Hope to see you there! |
