Weekly Update
August 19, 2019
Hello Friends.
Our August monthly meeting is this Wednesday (August 21st) at 7pm. We’re going to be talking about immigration and the cruelty being inflicted upon refugees and asylum seekers. We have two guests who will be sharing the stage to talk about different aspects of the crisis. Holly Cooper, Co-director of the UCD Immigration Law Clinic, was one of our most popular guest speakers last year. She’ll be joining us along with Autumn Gonzalez of NorCal Resist. As usual, our meeting will be held at Sierra 2 Community Center, 2791 24th St., Rm. 10. NorCal Resist Border Fundraiser Speaking of NorCal Resist, they are holding a fundraiser at Two Rivers Cider on Sunday, August 25th in support of their work they’re doing to help immigrants at the border. There will be live music, and of course, plenty of hard cider for sale. The address is 4300 Attawa Ave #300, Sacramento 95822. Postcard Events Before you head over for some cider, consider spending a couple hours writing postcards this Sunday. There is a postcard campaign going every Sunday from 1:00 until 4:00 at the Sacramento County Democratic office at 1033 S Street. Right now the focus is on flipping legislatures in states where they have elections this year. It will go a long way toward shaping Congressional redistricting for the next decade. Want to do more postcards? You’ll get another chance on Wednesday the 28th. We have a postcard event to turn out Dem voters in CA district 50, where Duncan Hunter, an almost comically corrupt Congressman, is somehow still in office. Every postcard you write will help change that! This event is at Colonial Heights Library, 4799 Stockton Blvd, starting at 7:00 p.m. We have many more events coming up – make sure you visit our website’s event section often! Also, while you’re on the site, we have a big blue button on the right hand side where you can donate to our Act Blue page if you’re so inclined. Thank you – and see you on Wednesday! |
