Weekly Update – 10/2/19
Good evening friends,
Our efforts have helped bring the House of Representatives to launch an official impeachment investigation against Donald Trump. Thank you to all who made phone calls to our Members of Congress. Let’s keep calling and continue to let them know we want them to investigate all of Trump’s crimes and hold him accountable. Ami Bera Town Hall Speaking of our Members of Congress, Congressman Ami Bera is holding a town hall at the Rancho Cordova City Hall next Tuesday, October 8th. If you live in his district, you might want to stop by. It’s a great chance for us to thank him for coming out in support of impeachment (and maybe push him to be a little more bold on health care and some other issues). The Town Hall starts at 6:00, and the address is 2729 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova. Next Meeting Our monthly meeting this month will be Wednesday, October 15th at 7:00 p.m. We’re pleased to welcome back guest speaker Sasha Abramsky, a journalist and author who has written extensively on politics and poverty. He was one of our most popular speakers when he joined us last year, so we can’t wait to hear from him again. Join us at 7:00 p.m. in Room 10 at Sierra2 Center. Get involved! But let’s not wait until the meeting to get involved. There are plenty of great events coming up: 10/6: 2020 Sundays Postcard Event: 1pm – 4pm, California Democratic Party Sacramento Office (1830 9th Street, Sacramento). Hosted by Sacramento Mighty Oaks. Write postcards to help elect Democrats to state legislatures in 2019 and increase voter turnout in legislative districts currently held by Republicans (Sister District and Vote Forward projects).
10/11-13: WEEKEND CANVASS CA-21: Canvass for 1, 2, or 3 days in the Hanford area to re-elect Democrat TJ Cox to this swing congressional seat. Cox flipped this district blue in 2018 by the slimmest of margins … and will be facing the former incumbent again in 2020. It’s not too early to start canvassing in this vulnerable district. Sponsored by East Bay for TJ.
10/13: CalAway Canvassing, CA-4: 10AM – 2PM, El Dorado Hills. (Discuss ride sharing on Facebook here.) Come knock on doors of Dems in District 4 who failed to vote in the 2016 election and remind them about the upcoming elections – the most important elections of our lives. If you canvassed with CalAway before the midterms (and even if you didn’t), this is for you.
10/13: SISTER DISTRICT PROJECT Blue(s) Wave Bash & Dance Party: 2pm – 5:30pm, Granite Bay — They’ll email you the address after your ticket purchase. Join Sister District Sacramento for a night of food, fun, and entertainment to support Karen Mallard, Democratic candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates. Entertainment by: Val Starr and the Blue Rocket. TICKETS HERE
10/23: Indivisible Primary Postcards to CA-50. 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 2100 J Street. — Write postcards to young Dems in this highly competitive Congressional District to make sure they turn out to vote in March. There may be two equally detestable Republicans in this race now, as former Congressman Darrell Issa is considering challenging incumbent Duncan Hunter. Let’s boost the Dem vote in the primary so we can keep one or both of them off the ballot in November! |
