Weekly Update 12/11/17
Hello, friends. Indivisible groups from around Northern California have sent a letter to Members of Congress and both of California’s senators to urge them to sign on to legislation that would prevent Donald Trump from firing Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller. Please take some time this week to call your representative and our Senators about this issue. In the Senate, two bills have been introduced to prevent Trump from firing Mueller. One is S.1735, the Special Counsel Independence Protection Act. The other is S.1741, the Special Counsel Integrity Act. So far, neither of Calfiornia’s senators is listed as a cosponsor for either bill. Please call Senator Harris (916 448-2787) and Senator Feinstein(415 393-0707) and urge them to support these bills, and to take whatever action necessary to prevent Trump from firing Mueller. In the House of Representatives, Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) has introduced a version of the Special Counsel Independence Protection Act, HR 3654. Please call your representative and urge him or her to support this measure. Find your representative and their contact information here. Trump Tax Scam The Tax Scam has not gone away, but it’s not a done deal, either. Both the Senate and the House will have to vote again before they finalize this terrible scheme to shovel money into the pockets of America’s least-deserving rich people and corporations. Keep up with the latest news at Indivisible’s Trump Tax Scam site. And keep calling your representatives! Even if they’re already on our side, and even if you’ve called before, it helps them to know that you really care about this issue. Congressman TomMcClintock voted against the measure last time, and we want to make sure he does not lose that courage this time around. Local progressive groups are organizing another rally outside his office to let him know we want hoim to say NO again. If you can make it tomorrow at noon, please join them. The location is 2200A Douglas Blvd. in Roseville. Meeting Next Wednesday It’s almost time for our next meeting! We meet at 7:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month, and this month that will be December 20th. Our meeting location is Room 10 at Sierra2 Center for the Arts and Community – 2791 24th Street, Sacramento. This month, we’re welcoming the Sacramento County Registrar of Voters, who will be talking to us about some new voting procedures that will be in place next year. It’s a perfect topic as we look forward to the 2018 elections. Final notes As always, remember to take a look at our website! And a special thanks to those who joined in for voter canvassing last weekend, both in District 10 and with Cal Away Team in the Sacramento suburbs. Cal Away let us know that they had 37 volunteers knock on 450 doors this weekend. Great work, everyone! |
