Weekly Update
6/10/18
Hello, Friends.
Looking for something to do on a Monday night? Good news! We’re going to be having an informal meeting tomorrow evening. We’ll be at Kupros Bistro (1217 21st Street in Midtown) starting at about 6:30 p.m. (Note: a previous message incorrectly stated 7:00 as the start time – apologies for the error). Stop by and have a drink with us. If you don’t drink, no problem. They also serve appetizers and sandwiches. The important thing is that we get together and have a friendly conversation. We’ll also be brainstorming ideas for future events and actions. We’ve reserved the upstairs room at Kupros, so we should have a nice, quiet place free from outside distractions and noise. Hope to see you there! Stop Separating Children from their Parents The Trump Administration has done many awful things, but their cruel and unnecessary policy of stealing immigrant children from their families is the most horrifying so far. Our Senator, Diane Feinstein, introduced a bill to stop this disgusting practice. Senator Kamala Harris has also signed on as a co-sponsor. Please call our Senators this week to thank them for this legislation and urge them not to give up until no more children are taken from their parents. For good measure, please also call your member of the House of Representatives and urge him or her to fight for children too. Local MOC phone numbers Rep. Doris Matsui: (916) 698-5600 If you want to do even more to help, you can donate some money. The ACLU is suing the Trump Administration to stop the separations, and many other groups are on the front lines helping immigrant families. You can donate to 7 of these wonderful organizations all at the same time from this Act Blue page. Midterm Elections We finally got to vote last week! The votes have not been counted yet, but it looks like we have a candidate in every Congressional race in California. Once all the votes are counted and we know exactly who to fight for, we need to do everything we can to win these elections. Take some time to visit California Away Team’s website. They are doing excellent work in the Sacramento area to save one blue seat (District 7: Fair Oaks, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove) and boot a terrible Congressman out of another (DIstrict 4: Roseville, Placerville, and the Sierra foothills). Now is a great time to get involved! Next Meeting Our next monthly meeting will be next Wednesday, June 20th, at 7:00. Our special guest is Andrew Truman Kim of Flip the 14. Andrew is an electoral expert and a veteran of many campaigns, and he’s going to talk to us about how we can flip the House of Representatives this year. The road to a Blue House goes right through California, so this is a very important presentation that you won’t want to miss. Our meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at Sierra2 Center – 2791 24th Street, Sacramento. Website As always, we want to remind you to visit our website: www.indivisiblesacramento.com. There is a treasure trove of information about everything we’re doing there, and there’s also a donation button, in case you’d like to support Indivisible Sacramento. |
