Weekly Update, August 16, 2018
It’s time for our meeting again. Our monthly get-together is this Wednesday evening at the usual time and place: 7:00 in room 10 at Sierra 2 Center (2791 24th Street).
This time our special guest is Paul Goodman with the Greenlining Institute. Greenlining is dedicated to fighting for justice and racial equality, and they’ve also been a very outspoken voice in favor of Net Neutrality, which is up for a key vote in the State Assembly this week. (Remember to give your Assembly Member a call before our meeting and tell them to vote for SB 822, Senator Scott Wiener’s Net Neutrality bill)
Nevada Voter Outreach
California’s Senate election is safely blue, with two Democrats on the ballot. But right next door in Nevada, there is a big contest this fall. Democrat Jacky Rosen is trying to unseat Dean Heller, a coward who has shamefully voted the way Trump wants him to 92% of the time. It is a very close election, but we aren’t going to leave this one to chance!
You can help reach out to Nevada voters. First, check out the “Flip A Nevada Senate Seat” section that we just added to our website.
Then make some phone calls! You can join us for this on Saturday, August 25th. That’s when we’ll be holding a phone bank session to reach out to Nevada voters. We’ll be doing this at the Arcade Library, 2443 Marconi Avenue, from 12:30 – 3:00. Now, you don’t need to wait for our event. You can make calls on your own from the comfort of your very own home. Details on how to do this are on our website.
It is always more fun to make calls with a bunch of friends around you, though, so mark the 25th on your calendar! (if you are able to make it on the 25th, please bring a laptop and a phone. If you have time, please register beforehand to save a little time – again, details are on the website at the link above.
Finally, the most effective way to persuade Nevada voters is to actually talk to them in person. We’re going to do just that on the weekend of September 21st. That’s right, we’re taking a field trip to Reno! We’re partnering with Indivisible Northern Nevada to persuade voters in the Reno area. We’ll have more details to come, but if you are interested in traveling up to Reno for that weekend, please reply to this message with an e-mail.
