Weekly Update: 10/15/18

Hello, Friends.

Voting is important, but voting is not enough. How are you volunteering to help kick Trump’s friends out of Congress?

One easy thing you can do is stop by the Sacramento County Democratic Headquarters at 1033 S Street and make phone calls for Democratic candidates across America. They’ve been holding phone banks for Jacky Rosen (NV Senate), Kyrsten Sinema (AZ Senate), Stacey Abrams (GA Governor) and many more. You can drop in on Thursday evenings from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 – 4:00, or Sundays from 12:00 – 6:00 now until the election.

Please bring a cell phone and a laptop. Don’t worry if you’ve never phone banked before – it’s very easy to learn, and it makes a huge difference in turning out voters!

Meeting on Wednesday

It’s time for our monthly meeting again! We’re very excited to be joined by Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg this month. From climate change to justice to affordable housing – so many of today’s big issues are being decided at the local level, so we look forward to a chance to talk with the head of our local government. And of course, we’ll also be talking about our ongoing efforts to win the elections.

The meeting is Wednesday at 7:00 in our usual room – Room 10, Sierra2 Center, 2791 24th Street. Hope to see you there!

Election Night Party

Whatever happens on Election Day, we hope you’ll join us to hear about it live. Indivisible Sacramento’s Election Night Party will be at Kupros Craft House at 1217 212st Street in Midtown. We have a large space reserved with plenty of large televisions to keep up with the news. And Kupros has very good food and drinks in case our company isn’t enough to draw you there!

Election night is November 6th in case you don’t have it circled on the calendar already. Party starts at 7:00 p.m.

Adopt a Vote Center

Do you have a few hours to spare on Sunday November 4th, Monday, November 5th, or Tuesday, November 6th? Our adopted Vote center at Marina Vista Community Center will be staffed by hired poll workers, but we would love to have volunteers to assist with managing voter flow, answering questions, and other tasks (especially on Election Day). If you would like to help, please contact Jill Shallenberger at jillmshall@gmail.com to RSVP and provide your availability.

If you can’t volunteer in person but would still like to help, we’d appreciate donations of easy-to-store treats (cookies apples, brownies, etc.) to share with voters. We can also use helium balloons to decorate the entrance and draw attention to the vote center. You can drop those off at the240 Seavey Circle Vote Center () on Sunday, November 3rd between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. For questions, call email Jill at the address above.

Immigrant Assistance

Please remember to check our website’s “Daily Actions” tab for opportunities to volunteer and donate to help immigrants in our community. We are continually updating this section with new information. In particular, please note that there are two opportunities to submit comments on proposed federal regulations that would have profoundly negative impacts on immigrant communities. Deadlines for comments are fast approaching, so please visit the site today.

Donate to Indivisible Sacramento

Also on our website – you can find a link to our Act Blue Page for donations. Through the end of October, Indivisible’s national team is matching donations to individual groups up to $500. Donations pay for basic group expenses, such as supplies, room rentals, and our Election Night party.
