Weekly Update 4/2/19
If Attorney General William Barr does not release the full version of the Mueller Report by tonight’s deadline, we are going to protest on Thursday. All over the country, concerned citizens will gather and show our numbers to demand that this report not be buried. Barr was hand-picked by Trump so that he could help whitewash the results of the investigation. We need to see the whole report so we can decide for ourselves. In Sacramento, we are meeting at the Capitol Building at 5:00 p.m. Please visit the official site of the Sacramento protest at MoveOn to get details and RSVP. Hearings at the Capitol It’s time to make a difference here in California. We can start by passing some very good laws to limit police violence and make our elections more fair. We need you to help us by showing up at the Capitol Building. It’s actually very easy – all you have to do is wait for the committee to discuss the bill we care about and then stand up and say you support it. SB 392 changes the current law that allows police officers to use force against civilians in a wide range of situations. The hearing for SB 392 is on Tuesday, April 9th at 8:30 a.m. in Room 126 of the Capitol. The next day, April 10th, two bills that Indivisible is supporting will be discussed in the Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee. AB 646 would restore voting rights to parolees. And AB 1217 would require sponsors of issue ads to disclose their financial contributors. That hearing is Wednesday, April 10th, starting at 9:00 a.m. in Room 444. As a reminder – if you attend a hearing, you will need to go through security at the Capitol Building. So make sure not to bring anything that shouldn’t go through a metal detector. Medicare for All Event Join the California Nurses Association for a presentation about the disparities created by our current health care system. This presentation discusses not only how the current system disparately treats people of different races and socio-economic statuses, but also how Medicare for All would refocus the system on patient need rather than profit. This event will be held on Wednesday, April 10th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Fruitridge Community Collaborative, 4625 44th Street, Sacramento. Donations Finally, if you are interested in donating to Indivisible Sacramento, April is an excellent tie to do so. If you make a donation at our Act Blue page this month, Indivisible’s national team will match that donation! Here’s the link to our Act Blue page. |
